How is PTSD Treated in Teenagers?
Addressing adolescent PTSD requires a delicate approach. Not talking about things is often a protective move to keep from having to think about something difficult and painful. Not to mention the fear of being seen as weak and showing your emotions to others. Teens are often reluctant clients. Creating a safe environment and helping teens understand that the pain will not overtake them requires time. It involves gentle exploring while also allowing them to maintain some control.
