Couples EFT Therapy in Frisco, TX
Do you feel like you are having the same argument over and over? Do you feel like your partner doesn’t understand you? Maybe you are spending more and more time as roommates.
We often think that communication is the issue, and it certainly is a big contributor. However, it is hard to speak our truth with kindness when we don’t feel valued and respected. EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) is based on the premise that we are all hard-wired to need social, emotional, and physical closeness with irreplaceable, significant others. When this sense of connection is lost, we feel vulnerable and focus on managing our own distress. This then leads us to respond with protective actions which leave us feeling more alone.
A thriving relationship involves not only good communication but also relational safety. The level of security we have in our relationships is related to how we answer the following question, “Can I trust that my partner will be there for me?”
EFT is based on the principle that the path to secure relationships is found in being able to answer “yes” to the following questions:
- “Will my partner give me their attention?”
- “Can I rely on my partner?”
- “Do I matter to my partner?”
Some may see the word emotion and think “no way am I going there”. As a person who learned in my childhood to ignore emotions, I GET IT! However, when you think about what is bringing you in… the arguments, the relational distance, the betrayal, etc…. there is no denying that strong emotions are present. Your emotions are meant to communicate what you need – they are important. We will move slowly, at a pace that is as comfortable for you as possible. Once it becomes more clear what you need, we can work on communicating that to your partner.
Working with couples and families involves more than individuals. The work we do will impact children, extended family, as well as future generations. Remember, you are teaching your children about communication. I can teach you how to turn toward your loved one and reach conflict resolution. With my help, you will learn how to model healthy communication and a secure relationship for those journeying through life with you.
What Happened To Us?
From the outside, your life is the picture of success. Married, two happy children, successful careers, and a charming house in the suburbs. In between work, kids, carpool, and chores, your partner and you have lost the art of casual conversation.
If you’re honest with yourself, your partner isn’t really a spouse anymore – they’re more like a co-manager of the household. Behind closed doors, you snap at each other. The relationship feels neglected, like a flower rarely watered, and it has begun to wilt.
